Continuing the Commitment to Veterans in Higher Education

We are so happy to announce that Veterans Upward Bound (STRIPES) will continue its commitment to veterans across our great state with another five years of federal funding.

Veterans Upward Bound is designed to motivate and assist veterans in developing academic and other requisite skills necessary for acceptance and success in a program of post-secondary education. Our VUB program provides assessment and enhancement of essential skills through counseling, mentoring, tutoring, and academic instruction in core subject areas. The program’s primary goal is to increase the rate at which participants enroll in and complete post-secondary education programs. As our program expands across the state, we are more humbled than ever to reach out to veterans who want to use their VA educational benefits.

As the program enters its sixth year, the staff is staging its most ambitious year of program support. Our program team feels like we’ve come so far and learned so much about how to serve veterans in a way that is meaningful to them. The Veterans Upward Bound program at UCO has helped more than 625 veterans over the 5 years of federal funding. We are so proud of the support we can offer our community.

The robust VUB program at UCO helps veterans feel successful while starting or completing their educational goals. Our purpose is to see veterans make informed choices and sound educational goals. It’s not always easy because it takes time for a veteran to get into college and secure educational funding. It can be a maze of websites and government document requests. However, the process gets easier for veterans who are supported by a program like Veterans Upward Bound.
