Get-To-Know a Broncho

Megan Cox, instructor, Mass Communications

What is your background?

I am a strategic communication professional who has worked in public affairs, digital media, and social media management for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the North American Veterinary Community, and Coldwell Banker New England. Currently, I contribute to a professional health marketing blog for Coffey Communications.

Tell me how you first got involved at UCO.

Serendipity! I missed working in the academic world ever since I earned my master’s degree from OU in 2007. In 2017, I touched base with UCO’s Mass Communication Department, which led to teaching public speaking as an adjunct professor. Then that lead to a full-time position in the strategic communication area in 2019.

What would you say your strongest beliefs are about your contributions to the university?

I am very passionate about the welfare of our students. I work to help them build their futures and be successful ambassadors for UCO. I’ve also published research on effective digital communication methods such as virtual reality, social media, and digital storytelling.

What do you do when you are not working?

My other full-time job: motherhood! I enjoy taking my daughter and son, ages 12 and 10, to their activities. I also love to write creatively, run long distances, and ice skate (I’m a former competitive figure skater). I’ve been married to my college sweetheart for 20 years, and he’s cheering me on as I complete my Ph.D. in 2022.
