What is Power BI and why am I hearing so much about it?
A powerful data analytics program, Power BI is available to all UCO employees as a part of the Microsoft 365 suite of tools. Using Power BI, UCO employees can create rich, interactive data visualizations from multiple data sources and share insights through reports and dashboards with others.
Many individuals, groups, and teams across UCO have been working with the Office of Information Technology’s BIRDS (Business Intelligence, Reporting, and Data Solutions) team to transition existing reports or create new reports, within the Power BI Platform. This tool will eventually become the primary source for any new data visualizations and will allow OIT to better streamline the data report creation process.
Session Overview
Each session will review the capabilities of Power BI highlighting the differences between the desktop and online versions of the tool. The facilitator will also provide insight into the different levels of access available.
The session focuses on hands-on training in the online platform to create/customize dashboards with data visualizations including matrix tables, heat maps, charts, graphs, and more. These skills will be perfect for those who have a dashboard already created but need to better understand how to work with the data and present it in an easy-to-understand format.
Participants will also learn how to develop their own custom reports and publish them online or use the graphics for a presentation. This section will be ideal for those who have static data in a spreadsheet but need more flexibility or visibility than is provided through Excel.
If you can’t attend one of the September offerings, more are being scheduled soon! Sign up on the watchlist in the Learning Center to be notified as soon as new dates are added.
