Sydney Wood, specialist, Employee Relations
It’s that time of the year again! As we look forward to 2022, it’s time for us to reflect on the challenges we’ve faced and our achievements over this past year. Performance appraisals provide a structured format to do so that helps individuals evaluate where they’re at and articulate where they want to go.
Performance appraisals continue to be employee-led, with staff members completing a self-assessment first. Leaders then take this assessment into consideration when completing the final appraisal. This helps individuals be accountable for, and take control of, their own growth and development.
All regular (non-temporary) full-time and part-time staff who started before Oct. 1 are expected to complete a performance appraisal for the 2021 calendar year. Self-appraisals will open on Jan. 17 and close Jan. 28. The week following is intended for staff members to present their self-appraisals to their supervisor. Supervisors will then have from Feb. 7 to Feb. 25 to complete their performance appraisals, followed by an Employee Relations review period. All performance appraisals will be released on March 28, so supervisor should ensure they discuss performance appraisals with their staff members prior to.
