An employee assistance program (EAP) is one of the greatest benefits an employer can offer its people, yet it’s often underplayed in organizations. Not at UCO. We have among the highest utilization rates for an EAP, which is a very good thing. It means our faculty and staff members are taking full advantage of this phenomenal (and free) resource to maintain strong mental health and well-being.

To ensure we are providing you with the best possible resources, we routinely review EAP providers every few years. 2020 just happened to be one of those years. In the year of 2020, many of us faced challenge after challenge, often struggling to strike something somewhat resembling solid ground. The EAP became more important than ever for our UCO community. Moving forward, we felt it was imperative to offer you the best of the best.

We are excited to announce we have selected a new EAP provider for UCO, starting March 1, 2021 – ComPsych. ComPsych offers a holistic, comprehensive and personalized approach to meet individuals “where they are” and provide the best services and resources, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

All calls are answered by master’s-level clinicians who are qualified to administer a comprehensive assessment of need and provide immediate connection to care and resources. Counseling services are offered in multiple modes to match your personal preferences – face-to-face, video, telephonic, chat and text are all available. Care providers are matched by fit, specialty and availability. An abundance of digital resources is also available to individuals.

ComPsych offers so much more than the traditional EAP counseling services. We look forward to sharing more soon, but for now, we would like to share three great programs that will be available to UCO faculty and staff.

ComPsych FamilySource offers unlimited support for child care, elder care, education, government programs, health/wellness, personal convenience and moving/relocation services. Additionally, individuals are provided with customized referral packets, work-life kits and online content and resources.

ComPsych LegalConnect offers unlimited consultation with in-house attorneys specializing in family law, identity theft, custody, real estate, contracts and tax questions. The program can also offer local referrals for in-person consultation with discounted legal fees along with online legal content and resources.

ComPsych FinancialConnect offers unlimited consultation with in-house financial experts specializing in budgeting, debt, credit, tax issues, retirement planning, real estate, estate planning and saving for college. Online financial content and resources are also available.

Additionally, we would like to thank those faculty and staff who served on the Request for Proposals (RFP) committee who took time in a hectic year to partner with Employee Relations, review proposals, attend virtual presentations and provide important perspectives:

  • Dr. Eric Eitrheim, professor of Chemistry
  • Scott DeBoard, coordinator of Process Improvement and Real Estate
  • Justine Kendall, director of Benefits
  • Julia Reed, senior director for the Center for Counseling and Well-Being

We are looking forward to this new partnership and to promoting all the great resources ComPsych has to offer. Stay tuned for more information.
