Benefits: New in 2020, Livongo for diabetes and GIThrive for your gut

Katie Saylor, People & Culture Communications Specialist

Now that the holidays are over and the bleak reality of my weight gain from the holidays has hit me, it’s a good time to share with UCO employees that the benefits team has added new wellness programs to the university’s medical plans for 2020. Starting this month, two new wellness programs are offered for any UCO employee and their dependent(s) covered under UCO’s medical plans.

The first, Livongo for Diabetes, coaches members who are currently living with diabetes. Livongo offers employees a variety of benefits not currently covered by UCO medical plans, including:

  • the Livongo connected meter, automatically uploading blood glucose readings;
  • strips and lancets are covered at 100% under the program, shipping right to the employee’s home; and,
  • coaching from certified diabetes educators who are available anytime via phone, text and the Livongo mobile app.

The second program GIThrive by Vivante Health, is a digital program for digestive health and disease for UCO employees and dependents (over 18 years old) covered on UCO’s medical insurance. The program offers a GutCheck Microbiome at-home test, personalized nutrition, 24/7 assistance from a care team member, and more. There are no lab visits or in-person appointments required.

Buddy Broncho made his first appearance in UCO's own newspaper The Vista. It was the October 3, 1932, issue where a Broncho appears wearing a UCO football uniform. He has appeared numerous times throughout the years from local Edmond papers in the 60's to state-wide papers in the 80's. The commissioning of the first ever live mascot appears in UCO's 1979 Bronze Book where Buddy Broncho made his first public appearance at Homecoming. Since that time, Buddy has been a fixture at UCO events and in the hearts of UCO students.
