UCO alumna Sgt. Meagan Burke died Sept. 29, 2022, in a head-on auto collision. While at Central, Burke was a member, and goalkeeper, of the UCO Women’s Soccer team, and made an appearance at the 2012 NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship. During her senior year, Burke played 1,677 of 1,780 possible minutes in goal during the season, having allowed just 10 goals while making 58 saves and posting nine shutouts. Additionally, Burke made the first-team All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Women’s Soccer Team. Burke graduated from Central with a degree in criminal justice and joined the Oklahoma City Police Department. Burke, who had served with the department since May 2016, had been a patrol officer for the Springlake Division before transferring to the highway interdiction unit and most recently returned to patrol as a field training officer for the Santa Fe Division. Burke worked nights on patrol and volunteered with the department’s Youth Leadership Academy. She would give the students rides, and work with them on weekends and days off. In honor of Burke, the UCO Women’s Soccer team wore wristbands with her number, 0, at the game Sept. 30; a moment of silence was observed before the game.
