The 2018 Spring Semester has started off hot with the Office of Information Technology’s 5th Annual Chili Cook-off and Bake-off. Every year OIT gathers their recipes and their smack talk and goes for the gold in support of the UCO Faculty/Staff Campaign. Beginning as just a chili cook-off, it was soon realized that the event needed something extra to cut the heat. So the bake-off category was added.
This year’s event took place on February 16th. Five judges participated in a blind taste test to choose the winners. Judges were Colin Simmons, Greg Mackey, Rhonda Templon, Chris Drennan and David Krone. David, who has participated as a judge for all five years, had this to say about the event.
“This has been a great event that I have had the opportunity to be a part of every year with the first time being just days into my employment. My favorite part about this event is the ability to converse with all OIT, in my opinion, it is one of the best events to catch up with everyone. There is also the part about eating some delicious chili and desserts, that’s pretty good too.”
And the winners are…
- 1st Place – Sonya Watkins (Veggie Chili)
- 2nd Place – Mitch Green (Traditional Chili)
- 3rd Place – Jimmy Young (Turkey Chili)
Baked Item Winners
- 1st Place – Stephanie Edwards (Cinnamon Roll/Berry Surprise)
- 2nd Place – Amanda Keessee (Triple Chocolate Chip Cookie)
- 3rd Place – Cindy Jacobs had two items that tied for 3rd (Butterfinger Cake and Strawberry Lemonade Cake)
The winners were presented with their prestigious awards during the March OIT All Staff Meeting. In addition to great food and team building fun, $150 was raised for the FY2018 UCO Faculty/Staff Campaign.
