Sustainability in the classroom
UCO integrates sustainability concepts into classroom settings across each of our colleges.
Courses such as environmental biology in the College of Math & Sciences, urban sustainability in the College of Liberal Arts, environmental health in the College of Education, survey of energy in the College of Business, and others focus on the importance of sustainability knowledge, no matter what career paths students choose.
In 2017, UCO officially launched a sustainability studies minor, which takes a multidisciplinary approach to sustainability and attracts students from all backgrounds and career aspirations.
Additionally, faculty members of the Central Oklahoma Sustainability Collaboration here at UCO partake in regular book clubs to help them develop sustainability teaching practices. UCO students, faculty, and staff undertake projects related to sustainability and have presented regionally and nationally about their sustainability work (e.g. at the Global Summit on Sustainability in Higher Education).
