USFWS National Forensic Science Laboratory
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Forensics Laboratory is the only lab in the world dedicated to crimes against wildlife. They examine, identify, and compare evidence using a wide range of scientific procedures and instruments, in the attempt to link suspect, victim, and crime scene with physical evidence.
USFWS Office of Law Enforcement
Our mission is to protect wildlife and plant resources through the effective enforcement of federal laws. By working with federal, state, tribal, and foreign enforcement agencies and other conservation partners, we combat wildlife trafficking, help recover endangered species, conserve migratory birds, preserve wildlife habitat, safeguard fisheries, prevent the introduction and spread of invasive species, and promote international wildlife conservation.
NOAA Office of Law Enforcement
Beyond science and regulations, we enforce more than 40 laws designed to protect marine life and their habitat. We enforce domestic laws and international treaty requirements to ensure these global marine resources are available for future generations. In partnership with states and other federal agencies, our special agents and enforcement officers work on all U.S. coasts and inland riverways to ensure compliance with the nation’s marine resource laws and take enforcement action when violators disobey the laws.
NOAA Fisheries Forensic Science Center
We conduct science to support the conservation of marine species and the ecosystems upon which they depend. Effective conservation requires understanding how human and natural factors influence the viability of marine species and their ecosystems, including human communities. To meet this challenge, we have assembled a group of scientists from a broad spectrum of disciplines, including statistics, genetics, ecology, economics, anthropology, and population biology. Working together, we are dedicated to providing science to address critical conservation needs, with a primary focus on the recovery of threatened species in the Pacific Northwest and the California Current.
