The Department of Mass Communication hosted UCO’s first-ever First Amendment Day on April 25, 2019; a date previously declared by President Betz. The event was put on by student co-directors and Faculty Advisor, Joe Hight. The students planned and executed a number of activities in conjunction with the special day, which launched the 50th anniversary year of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame.
The theme for the event was, “The First Amendment Is Me. The First Amendment Is Us.” This was developed by Mass Comm students as they planned the annual Media Ethics Conference last semester. The premise is to show how the First Amendment freedoms affect different professions and every American.
