DIRECTOR’S NOTE
I am so pleased and thankful to be back in Oklahoma and at UCO once again. This time as guest director and choreographer of “The Wedding Singer” musical. “The Wedding Singer” takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up, and a wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in the room. Based on the hit film with Drew Barrymore & Adam Sandler, “The Wedding Singer” is a musical ROM-COM love letter to the 1980s.
Robbie Hart, a wedding singer, and Julia Sullivan, a waitress, are both engaged, but to the wrong people. Fortune intervenes to help them discover their true destiny. The Wedding Singer’s sparkling new score does for the 80s what Hairspray did for the 60s and Grease did for the 50s!
Yes, there are adult themes and mild language, but nothing you haven’t seen on cable TV! The joy of the 1980s kitsch has a universal appeal for those who were there and for those who wish they had been. Just say yes to the most romantic musical in twenty years. It’s totally tubular.

Jesse Battice (Ensemble) is a sophomore musical theatre major! “The Wedding Singer” is his third show at UCO and his main stage debut. His proudest theatre moment is having worked as a Production Assistant for Lyric Theatre’s World Premier Native American Musical “Distant Thunder.” Jess gives love to the entire cast, creative team and crew for this beautiful show! He would like to thank his friends, the entire UCO Faculty/Staff, Vocal Professor Dr. Kevin Eckard, The Rodriguez Family, The Gelona Family, The Hammett Family and most importantly his beautiful mother and two sisters. All glory to God.
Sia Storm Villalobos Baxter (Ensemble) is a sophomore musical theater major. She is so excited to perform in her first main stage UCO production, “The Wedding Singer”! Previous shows include the “New Bronco Showcase” And “Sister Act.” Sia wants to thank her family, friends and professors for all the love and support she has received while at UCO! Sara Draper (Ensemble) is a transfer Musical Theatre major from Grove, Oklahoma. She made her UCO debut last spring, playing Yvette in the mainstage production of “Clue.” Sara is thrilled to be working with such a talented cast and crew. She would like to thank her parents for their continuous love and support and the UCO Musical Theatre Faculty for having confidence in her as an artist. Sara hopes you enjoy the show!
Emily Fabrega (Ensemble) is a junior musical theatre major at UCO. Some of her favorite past roles have included Bea in “Something Rotten,” Viola in “Twelfth Night” and Mary Poppins in “Mary Poppins.” Emily is so excited to have had the opportunity to work with such an amazing cast and crew. She would like to thank Steven Smeltzer and Joe Fitzgerald for this incredible experience. She would also like to thank her parents and friends for continuing to support her.
Baylee Fitzgerald (Holly) is so excited to be starting her senior year back on the Mitchell Hall stage, especially with a banger like “The Wedding Singer.” Baylee is a senior musical theatre major and currently studies voice under Dr. Marilyn Govich. Her favorite credits include Heather McNamara in “Heathers,” Audrey in “Little Shop of Horrors,” Julie in “Theory of Relativity” and Heather in “American Idiot.” Baylee would like to thank her parents and boyfriend, Morgan for all their love and support. And as always, a special shoutout to her puppies, Beau and Hosnar!
Hailey Hatfield (Rosie) is a super senior UCO music theatre student and is so excited to finish up her time here with this incredible production! Her recent credits include Adelaide in MCT’s production of “Guys and Dolls,” as well as several UCO musicals and shows, such as Ensemble in “Nine,” Jan in “Grease!,” La Fee in “Cendrillon” and of course, Rambi in “Six Women with Brain Death.” She would love to thank Steven Smeltzer for always encouraging her to be her best, Dr. Eckard and Eric Grigg, for helping her voice grow, Logan Vohs for helping her keep a positive mindset, and, finally, her friends and family for their constant support!
Teagan Jellison (Ensemble) is thrilled to be in “The Wedding Singer”! This is her first mainstage show and she is thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful cast of artists. Previously Teagan has been in a UCO production of “Sister Act” in the ensemble and as a cast member in the “New Broncho Showcase,” both directed by Kassie Carroll-Downey. She would like to thank Steven Smeltzer, Greg White and Dr. Herrington for believing in her talent and pushing her to grow as an artist. Finally, Teagan would like to thank her family for being so wonderful and supportive throughout her college career.
Emma Livingston (Rosie) is a senior musical theatre major and is so excited to be making her Mitchell Hall debut. You might have seen her recently as Sister Mary Patrick in “Sister Act” at the UCO Jazz Lab. She is forever grateful for her mom, Bennie, Gram and Landon. Roberto Lopez Jr. (Ensemble/ Sammy u/s) is a senior musical theatre major from Norman, OK. Previous credits include “Titanic the Musical” (Chorus) Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, “The Christmas Show 2022” (Chorale) Oklahoma City Philharmonic, “The Exonerated” (Doyle/ Male Ensemble #2) The Vanguart, “Sister Act” (Pablo), “RENT” (Paul/ Others), “Grease” (Swing) University of Central Oklahoma. He was also a member of the KD2 Dance company here at the University of Central Oklahoma.
Kendall McCollum (Julia) is a senior musical theatre major. She is so excited to perform on the Mitchell Hall stage again. You may have seen her as a swing in UCO’s “Grease”, in the ensemble of “Nine”, as Joanna in “The Theory of Relativity” and Sister Mary Lazarus in “Sister Act”. She studies voice under the wonderful Dr. Marilyn Govich. She thanks her parents, friends and dog Kaia for their love and support. She is so grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an amazing cast and show. She would like to thank everyone involved in this production!
Sophia Mullican (Linda) a senior musical theatre major, is so grateful to be performing on the Mitchell Hall stage again! Other UCO credits include “RENT” as Mimi Marquez and most recently “Sister Act” as Mother Superior. She would like to thank her director, friends and castmates for their hard work and for making this such a fun experience! Sophia loves her mom, girlfriend and cat. She hopes you enjoy the show!
Alex B. Mullings (Ensemble) is so excited to be returning to the historic Mitchell Hall! They are a recent Musical Theatre transfer, but this will be her third show with UCO MT. Some of her favorite past performances include “Peter Pan” (Peter Pan), “Sister Act” (Mother Superior), “The Drowsy Chaperone” (The Chaperone), “Mary Poppins” (Miss Andrew), “Chicago” (Matron “Mama” Morton), “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” (Woman 2), “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” (Marcy Park) and “Heathers” (New Wave Girl). They would like to thank Steven and the cast of “The Wedding Singer” for creating such an enjoyable and memorable experience.
Ian Nance (George) is a current junior here at UCO, majoring in musical theatre performance. His goal with his degree is to go into film and perform at community theaters once he completes his degree. Ian has been in love with theater and his debut show as the Emperor in “Mulan Junior” at nine years old. One of his favorite shows he has been in was Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “CATS,” where he played sneaky Mungojerrie. He would like to thank his parents, Marquetta and Allen Vyce for supporting him and hopes to make them proud. He also wants to thank all his peers and staff for helping and encouraging him to become the man he is today.
Morgan Paulson (Swing) is a sophomore musical theatre major from Austin, Texas. She is studying voice with Dr. Molly Johnson and is beyond thankful to have had the opportunity to swing for “The Wedding Singer.” She debuted in the Jazz Lab show “Sister Act” last spring and you can see her there again in the upcoming Holiday show. She’s so thankful to her friends and family for their love and support as well as the staff at UCO because… love is what they do! She hopes you love “The Wedding Singer!”
Heath Rawls (Ensemble/Robbie Understudy) is a sophomore musical theatre major and a member of the DeMaio studio and is so excited to make his Mitchell Hall debut! Some favorite past roles include Bobby Strong “Urinetown,” Monty Navarro “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder” and John Hinckley “Assassins.” He would like to thank his friends, his family and everybody involved with this show for all their support.
Saoirse Ryhn (Holly) is a junior musical theatre major at UCO and is ecstatic to be back at Mitchell Hall performing in “The Wedding Singer!” Her favorite credits include Charity in “Sweet Charity,” Margot in “Legally Blonde” and Cosette in “Les Miserable.” She’d like to thank her family and friends for being her biggest support system and the whole creative team for putting together such an amazing show!
Ashlea Stewart (Angie/Ensemble) is a senior musical theatre major from Norman, Oklahoma who studies voice with Dr. Marylin Govich. Her credits include Reno Sweeney “Anything Goes,” Ado Annie “Oklahoma!” and ensemble “Nine”. She would like to thank her family, friends and the amazing UCO faculty!
Jules Straughn (Ensemble/Dance Captain) is thrilled to bring this tubular musical to Mitchell Hall! She is a senior dance performance major at UCO, with an associate degree in musical theatre from Rose State College. Her favorite roles have been Olive Ostrovsky “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” Anne Shirley “Anne of Green Gables” and Pippi Longstocking “Pippi Longstocking.” She would like to thank Steven Smeltzer, the cast and crew, Dr. Molly Johnson and her family.
Nolia Sweatt (swing) is from Bethany Oklahoma. Nolia is a sophomore at the University of Central Oklahoma studying musical theatre. She is currently studying voice with Dr. Herrington. Nolia is very excited to be a swing in “The Wedding Singer.” Last spring, she was ensemble in UCO’s production “Sister Act.” You can see Nolia this fall performing in UCO’s production of “The Coven.” Nolia would like to thank her loving friends and family for their support!
Robert Valderas (Sammy) is a sophomore musical theatre major from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He would like to thank God and his family for this awesome opportunity. He would also like to thank his fantastic voice professor Dr. Eckard for teaching him his technique. “The Wedding Singer” is his second role in a musical, as well as his UCO main stage debut.
Logan Vohs (Sammy) thanks his parents for always letting him pursue his dreams. He is also grateful for director Steven Smeltzer and his amazing work. Logan feels very blessed to be performing alongside such talented actors. Logan would also like to thank Hailey Hatfield for her constant support. Logan is excited to portray the character of Sammy and hopes you enjoy him as much as Logan has.
Logan Wright (Ensemble) is a senior musical theatre major and is currently studying voice with Dr. Rob Glaubitz. Since he’s been at UCO, he has played Mark in “RENT,” Lonny in “Rock of Ages,” Oscar in “Sweet Charity,” Curtis in “Theory of Relativity” and the ensemble of “Big Fish” and “Sweeney Todd.” He has also performed in the 2021 OKC Polar Express Train Ride. Logan would like to thank his friends and family for all of their love and support!
Sarah Zorn (Linda) is a senior musical theatre major studying voice with Dr. Marilyn Govich. She is thrilled to be a part of this incredible cast and crew. Her favorite credits are Constance in “Rock of Ages,” Nadjira in “The Apple Tree” and Ensemble in “Nine.” She would like to thank her Mom, Dad, twin brother and all of her wonderful friends for being her biggest supporters. Zachary Wright (Robbie Hart) is a transfer student in the Musical Theatre program here at UCO. Some of his past roles include Pharaoh in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” Thomas Andrews in “Titanic: The Musical,” Barfee in “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” and Quasimodo in “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” He was last seen on the Mitchell Hall stage in the ensemble of “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.” He would like to thank his friends and family for supporting him in furthering his education and pursuing his dreams.

Samantha Aldridge (Sound Designer) is the current sound designer and engineer for University Productions at UCO. Samantha graduated from UCO with a B.F.A. in Theatre: Design and Technology with an emphasis in sound design and engineering. She’s done a lot of shows during her career and is excited to be working with Steven Smeltzer again! She plans to stick around Oklahoma for a while and mooch off of her parents as long as she can. If you are anyone other than her Mom still reading this right now then this smiley face if for you. 🙂 Every show is always dedicated to her family and her dog, Banjo.
Garett Christensen (Assistant Music Director) is a senior musical theatre major from Spiro, OK. He is making his debut as a pit musician playing keyboard. He began playing piano at the age of five when his grandmother put him into piano lessons. He began leading church worship and accompanying singers at the age of twelve and found a passion for collaborative piano. He currently studies collaborative piano with Dr. Sallie Pollack. He would like to thank Steven Smeltzer, Joe Fitzgerald, Alyssa Cargill, Mary Wierick, Eric Grigg, Dr. Pollack and Greg White for their hard work and collaboration on this project. Thank you to Mom and Dad for always loving and supporting me. He dedicates this show to his grandma who would be so proud of his musical journey. Anne Rhyne (Assistant Stage Manager) is so excited to have the opportunity to explore stage management for the first time alongside the UCO Musical Theatre department. This is her third year at UCO, and she is a performance theatre major. She was most recently seen in APO’s musical production of “The Mad Ones” in March of 2021. She’d like to thank her family for their endless support, the cast for their dedication, and the crew for all their hard work.
Megan Ann Richardson (Costume Designer) is so excited to be designing the costumes for “The Wedding Singer.” This is her first musical at UCO. She also designed the costumes for the Kaleidoscope Dance concert last spring. Megan is originally from upstate New York but her career in theatre has taken her all over the US. Now she is thrilled to be working in the very vibrant theatre community here in Oklahoma!
Kristy Benson (Scenic Design) holds an MFA in Scenic Design from Illinois State University. In January 2015, she received the KCACTF Region III Theatrical Design Excellence Award for Scenic Design for my design of Water by the Spoonful. She then competed in the KCACTF national convention in Washington D.C. Kristy has previously been employed as an Assistant Scenic Designer for the Pacific Conservatory Theatre, the Scenic Designer and Paint Charge for Crossroads Summer Repertory, Stage Crew Apprentice for the Santa Fe Opera, and scene shop staff for Illinois State University and Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Her passion runs deep for the arts. Whether I work with theatre, studio art, or dance, I am always on the prowl for innovative inspiration and ideas. kristybensondesigns.com
Steven Smeltzer (Emeritus Instructor/Director/Choreographer) is very happy to be returning for a couple of months as part of the Central Musical Theatre faculty at UCO. Steven has spent much of the past 30 years as a professional performer, director, and choreographer in New York City as well as Nationally and Internationally. Since Steven came to UCO 12 years ago he has directed and choreographed “Grease,” “Hair,” “Whirling Winter Wonderlands,” “Chicago,” “6 Women with Brain Death,” “Saturday Night Fever,” “Heavenly Holidays,” “Cabaret,” “Naughty & Nice & A Little Bit Nuts,” “A Chorus Line,” “The Full Monty,” “Working,” “Dido And Aeneas,” “Pippin,” “Christmas In The City,” “Once On This Island,” “Sing For Your Supper,” “Jerry’s Girls” and the Oklahoma premiere of “The Great American Trailer Park Musical” with Broadway Tonight and City Rep. Steven had the privilege to direct and choreograph the 1st National Tour of “The Great American Trailer Park Musical” which was also featured at the Edinburgh Theatre Festival in Scotland. Other credits include directing and choreographing “Into The Woods,” “Peter Pan,” “Seussical” (Summerstock Productions OK), “The Mystery of Edwin Drood” (NYC), “Pirates of Penzance” (IA), “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” (NYC), “Forever Plaid” (FL), “The Rocky Horror Show” (CT), the world premieres of “Over The Rainbow-The OZ Project” and “Finding Disneyland” (Sweden). In Europe, he directed and choreographed long-running productions of “Hair,” “The Golden Musicals of Broadway” (Jennifer Lopez’ first professional gig), and “The Best of Broadway.” Regionally he has directed and choreographed numerous productions of “Nunsense,” “A Chorus Line” and “West Side Story” among others.
