In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the university calendar for the spring 2021 semester will include the following one-time changes:
Winter Break will be extended by one week.
- Spring 2021 classes will begin Tuesday, Jan. 19.
- Employees will receive an additional week of paid leave from Jan. 4-8. Staff will report back to work Jan. 11.
Spring Break, scheduled for March 15-19, will be eliminated from the spring 2021 semester schedule.
- Students and faculty will continue classes according to their regular schedule this week.
- Staff will report to work as scheduled.
The extension of Winter Break offers the campus community an exchange for the time off at Spring Break. Staff still can request paid leave for the dates that Spring Break would have occurred. The spring 2021 semester still is set to end May 7. Note this does not constitute an additional week of pay; rather, the week of paid leave an employee would have received for Spring Break will be paid for the extended Winter Break. Employees will be paid regularly for work for the week that was scheduled for Spring Break.
Though it may seem early to make a decision about the spring 2021 semester schedule, the university already is beginning to plan the spring class schedule and enrollment will open Oct. 26. Making this change now allows our students, faculty and staff time to make or adjust plans.
Again, these are one-time changes to the academic calendar. We look forward to returning to a regular semester and break schedule for the 2021-22 academic year.
