July 13, 2020: Fall Enrollment Update: Extended Classroom Sections Opening Soon

Extended Classroom Options are Almost Ready

Last month, we shared our fall class instruction options. This includes in-person courses, 100% online courses, alternative instructional delivery and  new extended classroom option for some courses. Extended classrooms are virtual seats for in-person classes where students will join the class online at the same time as in-person students. These students will have the same professor and opportunities for interaction during class. For example, a classroom that traditionally would have a maximum capacity of 30 students might now only have 20 students attend in person. The remaining 10 students would participate virtually through the extended classroom. This will help us follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for social distancing.

Academic departments have examined every in-person class for the fall semester to determine which ones would be able to utilize the extended classroom environment. We will send announcements via email, social media and the UCO website when these courses are live and available for enrollment. These announcements will include specific instructions to help you identify these courses on the schedule.

How Enrollment in the Extended Classroom Will Work

When extended classroom sections first open, students currently enrolled in an in-person class will be the only ones who can enroll in the matching extended classroom. These students will have until Friday, July 24, to make this enrollment change on their own. Beginning Monday, July 27, we will begin manually moving students out of the in-person class to the extended classroom to accommodate distancing requirements. After this is completed, any student can enroll in the remaining in-person or extended classroom seats.

Thank You

We greatly appreciate your patience as we continue to adjust to these changes as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. Admittedly, it’s not been an easy task to adapt the campus and its services to this new environment, but your educational experience, as well as your safety, have been at the forefront of our decision-making. Keep an eye on your email and social media for announcements in the coming days.
