CFA Institute Research Challenge
Students led by the Department of Finance at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) participated in the 2022 Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute Research Challenge (Oklahoma) held at the University of Oklahoma (OU).
The UCO team’s faculty advisor was Sharier Azim Khan, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Finance. Members of Central’s team included:
- Victor Gallardo, a senior finance major;
- Jing Yong, a senior finance major;
- Tucker Jones, a senior finance major;
- Thang Hoang, a junior finance major; and,
- Sam Rybicki, a senior accounting major.
The team extends appreciation to Cory J. Robinson, CFA, FRM, vice president and portfolio manager at Tom Johnson Investment Management, LLC, for volunteering as an outside industry mentor. Special thanks also goes to Steve Winkler, CFA, senior vice president at BancFirst for organizing the research challenge at the state level on behalf of the CFA Society Oklahoma.
UCO’s competition included teams from the University of Tulsa and the University of Oklahoma.
The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis and professional ethics. Each student is tested on their analytical, valuation, report writing and presentation skills. They gain real-world experience as they assume the role of a research analyst.
