Things to do in June: Concerts, Album Releases and Dance Parties!

Got some free time on your hands during the summer? From concerts to international album releases to wacky dance parties in the 405, we’ve curated a list of some awesome things you should do in June!

June 1: Roger Daltrey new album “As Long As I Have You” releases

June 1: Flaming Lips Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 releases
Preorder
The Flaming Lips will release its first “hits” compilation on both CD and vinyl. All of the songs feature former Masterclass and ACM@UCO collaborator Steven Drozd as well as several of ACM’s faculty and staff members!

ACM alumnus Cutter Elliott will be performing live at El Toro Chino in Norman, Okla., on June 1 and June 15. Cutter performs traditional country music.

June 2: Horse Thief & John Calvin Abney concert @ Tower Theatre, OKC

ACM alumnus and Horse Thief lead singer Cameron Neal will be making an appearance at the Tower Theatre – their last performance in Oklahoma for awhile! Word on the street is that Horse Thief is coming out with a 3rd record in 2019, so keep your eyes on them for a release date.

June 7: Buckethead @ Tower Theatre OKC

Buckethead is a virtuoso guitarist and multi-instrumentalist who performs within many genres of music. He has been voted number 8 on a list in GuitarOne magazine of the “Top 10 Greatest Guitar Shredders of All Time” as well as being included in Guitar World’s lists of the “25 all-time weirdest guitarists” and is also known for being one of the fastest guitar players on planet earth.

June 8-10: Spring Awakening Music Festival @ Addams-Medill Park, Chicago

AFROJACK, BORGORE, CARNAGE, DASH BERLIN, DIMITRI VEGAS & LIKE MIKE, HARDWELL, KASKADE, STEVE AOKI and TIËSTO headline this Chicago-based EDM weekend festival. General admission day passes can be purchased anywhere from $79-$99 while 3-day VIPs are looking at $319. The lineup alone is a dream come true.

June 9: Saint Monore @The Deli, Norman, OK

A group made of some ACM alumni, Saint Monore will be performing at The Deli in Norman, Okla.! The Deli is Norman’s longest running live music venue. Must be 21 to enter.

June 10: Coathangers @ 89th Street, OKC

With Husbands and LCG and the X. From Paste magazine: “The Coathangers’ transition from raw to razor-sharp was essentially complete by 2014’s Suck My Shirt, but Nosebleed Weekend displays an even greater capacity for churning out maniacally captivating tunes.”

June 12: “All Gates Open: The Story of Can” book releases

June 21: Don’t Tell Dena @ The Soundpony, Tulsa

The Oklahoma City-based Psychedelic/Indie rock band Don’t Tell Dena was started by Chris Krummrich and Sean Kanaly, later adding two fellow ACM@UCO students Campbell Young and Triston Lightner. With influences such as Pink Floyd, The Killers, Walk The Moon, and Panic! at the Disco, Don’t Tell Dena began to discover their true sound.

June 22: Dawes new album “Passwords” releases

Dawes is an American folk rock band from Los AngelesCalifornia. Dawes is composed of brothers Taylor (guitars and vocals) and Griffin Goldsmith (drums), along with Wylie Gelber (bass) and Lee Pardini (keyboards).

June 22: Cutter Elliott live @ Toby Keith’s Bar and Grill, OKC

June 29: Adam & Kizzie Album Release Show @ Tower Theatre, OKC

Adam & Kizzie have been married and performing their original music for seven years. Having released two awesome albums and two incredible music videos, they are set to release their third album this summer with more exciting developments to come.

THE REVOLUTION, MAVIS STAPLES TO HEADLINE ACM@UCO’S METRO MUSIC FEST

ACM@UCO is proud to announce the main headliners for the 2018 Metro Music Fest: The Revolution and Mavis Staples!

The Revolution, composed of Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, Bobby Z, BrownMark and Dr. Fink, is best known as the band behind Prince. The Revolution have two No. 1 Billboard 200 albums – “Purple Rain” and “Around the World in a Day” – and multiple No. 1 singles. The band also has won three Grammys and three American Music Awards. After Prince’s death in 2016, the band remained united to continue to play in his honor.

Two-time Grammy winner and civil rights icon Mavis Staples, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, brings soul and gravitas to the festival this year. Mavis and her five-person band move fluidly between the gospel, soul, rock, rhythm-and-blues and country genres of the American roots music she helped pioneer with her family band, The Staple Singers.

ACM@UCO ALUMNUS JASON SCOTT RECORDS FIRST ALBUM, WILL PERFORM IN OKC JAN. 19

ACM alumnus Jason Scott has finished recording his first album, “Living Rooms,” and will be holding a show at the Tower Theatre Studio in Oklahoma City on Jan. 19 to support the vinyl release! Doors open at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m.

ACM@UCO Student Wins Best Musical Score At 48 Hour Film Festival

ACM@UCO contemporary music production student Noah Copeland recently won Best Musical Score at Oklahoma City’s 48 Hour Film Project Awards Show, which took place at the Tower Theatre in Oklahoma City on Sept. 26. Noah recorded the automated dialogue replacement (ADR) and composed all of the music for “The Bar Maid in the Forest,” one of the award-winning films created during the 48 Hour Film Project.

The 48 Hour Film Project is a competition in which participants have a total of 48 hours to complete a film based on a randomly selected genre, a line of dialogue, and a prop that must be included in the film.
