The Dec. 5 lineup features colourmusic, Sophia Massad and more; donations benefit Positive Tomorrows

Hear that? It’s the sound of a season-celebrating local music lineup for the ACM student-organized Holiday Wrap-Up, happening Dec. 5 at ACM Live Room at The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO). Admission is free, but donations to benefit Oklahoma City nonprofit Positive Tomorrows are welcome at the door.

The festive lineup features ACM faculty Ryan Hendrix and Nicholas Ley of colourmusic, DJ and musician Travis Tester (aka Trav is Dead), Nicholas Poss, singer-songwriter Sophia Massad, multi-instrumentalist and singer Than Medlam (of Equilibrium), alternative pop singer-songwriter Sephra Scheuber, longtime guitarist Danny Hargis and ACM@UCO Executive Director Scott Booker, as well as ACM@UCO students, alumni and staff (full list below).

“Although it’s not the end of the school year, the holiday season feels makes me reflect on all the amazing achievements our students, faculty, and staff accomplished,” Booker said. “A celebration with our faculty and staff performing together is the perfect representation of who we are!”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; music begins at 7 p.m. at ACM Live, 25 S. Oklahoma Ave. (First floor; formerly Michael Murphy’s Piano Bar.) Admission is free and open to the public, but a donation is encouraged to benefit Oklahoma City nonprofit Positive Tomorrows, Oklahoma’s only elementary school specifically for homeless children. Requested donations include new blankets, reusable shopping/tote bags, laundry soap, new beanies, new gloves, and copy paper. Cash is also appreciated.

“I always enjoy performing with students because we get to actually make music together instead of just talking about making music,” said Than Medlam, a longtime musician and ACM@UCO faculty member. “Being part of the performance allows me to share art with my students on an even deeper level than just coaching the preliminary work.”

Student Involvement in The Holiday Wrap Up is not limited to the nights’ performances. The event was conceived, organized and promoted by ACM’s Introduction to Concert and Tour Management class as their final project for the semester.

“An ACM holiday event is such a fun way for students and faculty from all three ACM programs to come together as a family and showcase what we’re learning while supporting a great cause,” said Music Business major NataliaVeloz leos. “It’s exciting to have helped create what might become an annual event at ACM. It’s kind of part of our classes legacy.”

The Holiday Wrap-Up is a new addition to ACM@UCO’s ongoing Metro Music Series, offering dozens of ticketed and free, all-ages events throughout the year with the mission of exposing audiences to new music, cultural diversity, educational opportunities, our campus, and Oklahoma City’s thriving Bricktown entertainment district. ACM@UCO’s Metro Music Series is also an important piece in growing arts-related partnerships throughout the metro area, the state of Oklahoma, the music and entertainment industry and beyond, and is sponsored by The Oklahoma Film + Music Office, Downtown OKC Partnership, Bricktown, Hal Smith Restaurants, Exchange Music, The Wedge and Painted Door Gift Boutique.
