The show is a part of the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma’s growing Metro Music Series celebrating the school’s 10th anniversary.

Indie Americana quartet Mipso headlines an Oct. 10 tour stop at ACM@UCO Performance Lab, 329 E. Sheridan Ave., in Bricktown. Singer, songwriter and ACM student Jason Scott opens the show.

“We are trying to bring in a variety of music this year to our Metro Music Series celebrating our 10th year of the program’s existence,” explained ACM@UCO CEO and Executive Director Scott Booker. “Many of our students aspire to be part of the regional Americana scene, so ACM@UCO is excited to bring one of the most exciting new bands of the genre to our Performance Lab.”

Mipso — Jacob Sharp (mandolin, vocals), Wood Robinson (bass, vocals), Joseph Terrell (guitar, vocals), and Libby Rodenbough (fiddle, vocals) — released its fifth album, “Edges Run,” in April via a newly inked record deal with AntiFragile Music.

Influenced by the contradiction of its progressive home and the surrounding rural southern landscapes, Mipso was recently recognized by Rolling Stone magazine as one of “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know.” Of the quartet, the magazine wrote said it sounds like “a back-porch hootenanny set not in an Appalachian holler but in a city, where the songs performed draw from Bill Monroe to David Bowie.”

Indeed, the band brings a distinctly unique sound, venturing ever-further from its string-band pedigree to discover a broader Americana, where classic folk-rock and modern alt-country sounds mingle with Appalachian tradition. Singer, songwriter and ACM student Jason Scott opens the show. The Oklahoma City musician released his “Living Rooms” EP in late 2017. Oklahoma Gazette said of the project: “The album, produced by Oklahoma roots music maven Travis Linville, ranges from gritty blues to upbeat bluegrass. Scott shows promise as an up-and-coming addition to the state’s proud songwriting heritage.”
