The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma presents a drum clinic led by Rich Redmond, the drummer for Jason Aldean, at noon Feb. 28 at the ACM Live Room, 25 S. Oklahoma Ave., in Bricktown.

Redmond is a world-class drummer who has toured with country music star Jason Aldean for over 20 years. He’s also an award-wining producer, songwriter, speaker, author, actor and recording drummer who has worked with artists such as Ludacris, Kelly Clarkson, Bryan Adams, Bob Seger, Joe Perry, Garth Brooks, Chris Stapleton, Jewel and Chris Cornell, to name a few.
Redmond is a four-time winner of Modern Drummer magazine’s “Country Drummer of the Year” honor, and his resume includes more than two-dozen No. 1 singles.

It’s the sound of a season-celebrating local music lineup for the ACM student-organized Holiday Wrap-Up, happening Dec. 5 at ACM Live Room at The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO). Admission is free, but donations to benefit Oklahoma City nonprofit Positive Tomorrows are welcome at the door.
The festive lineup features ACM faculty Ryan Hendrix and Nicholas Ley of colourmusic, DJ and musician Travis Tester (aka Trav is Dead), Nicholas Poss, singer-songwriter Sophia Massad, multi-instrumentalist and singer Than Medlam (of Equilibrium), alternative pop singer-songwriter Sephra Scheuber, longtime guitarist Danny Hargis and ACM@UCO Executive Director Scott Booker, as well as ACM@UCO students, alumni and staff (full list below).
“Although it’s not the end of the school year, the holiday season feels makes me reflect on all the amazing achievements our students, faculty, and staff accomplished,” Booker said. “A celebration with our faculty and staff performing together is the perfect representation of who we are!”
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; music begins at 7 p.m. at ACM Live, 25 S. Oklahoma Ave. (First floor; formerly Michael Murphy’s Piano Bar.) Admission is free and open to the public, but a donation is encouraged to benefit Oklahoma City nonprofit Positive Tomorrows, Oklahoma’s only elementary school specifically for homeless children. Requested donations include new blankets, reusable shopping/tote bags, laundry soap, new beanies, new gloves, and copy paper. Cash is also appreciated.
“I always enjoy performing with students because we get to actually make music together instead of just talking about making music,” said Than Medlam, a longtime musician and ACM@UCO faculty member. “Being part of the performance allows me to share art with my students on an even deeper level than just coaching the preliminary work.”
Student Involvement in The Holiday Wrap Up is not limited to the nights’ performances. The event was conceived, organized and promoted by ACM’s Introduction to Concert and Tour Management class as their final project for the semester.
“An ACM holiday event is such a fun way for students and faculty from all three ACM programs to come together as a family and showcase what we’re learning while supporting a great cause,” said Music Business major NataliaVeloz leos. “It’s exciting to have helped create what might become an annual event at ACM. It’s kind of part of our classes legacy.”
The Holiday Wrap-Up is a new addition to ACM@UCO’s ongoing Metro Music Series, offering dozens of ticketed and free, all-ages events throughout the year with the mission of exposing audiences to new music, cultural diversity, educational opportunities, our campus, and Oklahoma City’s thriving Bricktown entertainment district. Oklahoma Film ICON Panel Series at ACM@UCOOF+MO, in conjunction with deadCenter, hosts the Oklahoma Film ICON Panel Series all day Saturday, June 8 at the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO), located on the Bricktown Canal at 25 S. Oklahoma Ave.
The series features intimate conversations with special guests, including this year’s featured festival filmmakers and ICON award recipients.
These panels are free and open to both the public and festival goers.
The panels provide attendees networking and educational opportunities. Topics include actors-turned-directors, documentary storytelling, content creation, locations scouting, special effects makeup, cinematic lighting and the future of Oklahoma’s film industry.

deadCenter promotes, encourages and celebrates independent films with both the organization’s annual film festival, as well as their year-round educational outreach via the deadCenter Institute. Named one of MovieMaker Magazine’s “Top 20 Coolest Film Festivals in the World” and “Top 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee,” deadCenter received a record-breaking 1,500 film submissions this year.
One-hundred-forty films were selected, including 38 projects either made in Oklahoma or by Oklahoma filmmakers. “The Bygone,” “Hosea” and “Trolls: Stop Motion” animated series, which each utilized the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program administered by OF+MO, will screen at the festival.
Earlier this year at the festival’s May kick-off event, OF+MO was named one of deadCenter’s Oklahoma Film ICON Award recipients in recognition of OF+MO’s 40th anniversary as a state office. This distinction honors individuals or organizations with ties to Oklahoma whose success in the film and entertainment sector has elevated the global perception of the state within the film industry. This year’s other Icon Award honorees are Academy Award winning make-up artist and Oklahoma City native Steve La Porte, OU graduate and gaffer and lighting technician Steve Mathis and renowned location scout and Enid native Alison Naifeh.

Formed in 2017, The Space Program (TSP) is a Black collegian hip-hop collective from higher education institutions across the state of Oklahoma. It creatively disrupts anti-Black, anti-Semitic, imperialist, white, patriarchal institutions that oppress Black people, through the creation and production of a hip-hop album, Curriculum of the Mind.
The name stems from the track “Space Program” by A Tribe Called Quest, which makes the argument that “There ain’t a space program for ni**as.”
The Space Program Collective sonically, empirically and ingeniously provides a new “Space Program” for hip-hop scholarship and praxis, both in the academy and the community at large. The Collective additionally provides for a community of Black males that currently attend, have graduated, or stopped out at historically white colleges within the past 10 years, who also identify as artists, rappers, musicians, producers, poets, activists, b-boys, disc jockeys (DJ’s), audio engineers, historians, entrepreneurs, graffiti artists, graphic and web designers, campus leaders, scholars, photographers, videographers and/or hip-hop collegians.
New generations call for new voices, and new areas of inquiry, and this is your notice that class is in session. For Dr. View and the Space Program Collective, it always has been.

Sam Weber, an indie singer-songwriter and musician from Victoria, British Columbia, returns to OKC for a concert 7 p.m. April 8 at ACM@UCO Performance Lab. Tickets are $10 at acm-uco.eventbrite.com.
Weber is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist in the vein of Jackson Browne, The Band, The Wood Brothers and Gillian Welch. He has been touring independently and internationally with his band since 2013. Years spent refining songs at home in North Saanich, BC and working in studios in Los Angeles have honed Weber’s craft to a fine point.
His live show pairs heartfelt songwriting with world-class musicianship and three-part harmony. He has released two LPs to date, “Shadows in the Road” (2014) and “Valentina Nevada” (2016). Through the characters and anecdotes in his songs, Weber sings about the truths of love, life and family.
He and his band released a new EP, “New Agile Freedom,” in 2018 and are now on tour.

Victor Wooten is the five-time Grammy Award-winning bassist widely known as a founding member of the supergroup Béla Fleck & The Flecktones. He also tours with The Victor Wooten Band.

Wooten’s sought-after skills and growing popularity have led to recordings and performances with artists such as Chick Corea, The Dave Matthews Band, Bootsy Collins, Branford Marsalis, Mike Stern, Prince, India Arie, Keb Mo, Dennis Chambers, Susan Tedeschi, Gov’t Mule, Bruce Hornsby, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Frank Gambale, the legendary Moroccan group Nass El Ghiwane and many others.
Named one of the Top 10 Bassists of All Time by Rolling Stone, he has been voted Bassist of the Year three times in Bass Player magazine’s long-running online poll. In February 2017, Huffington Post named him one of 50 Iconic Black Trailblazers, pictured just after President Barack Obama.
Wooten’s respected reputation as a teacher and speaker and lecturer about both music and nature have garnered invitations for him to speak and teach at schools, universities, classes and spiritual centers around the world.
Known for its funky, jazzy music and powerful unpredictable performances, The Victor Wooten Band, comprised of brothers Regi and Joseph Wooten on guitars and keyboards and Derico Watson on drums, will play a dynamic mixture of old and new music mixed with improvisations jams and classic cover songs.
In addition, fellow musicians and educators Steve Bailey, Bob Franceschini, Bob Hemenger and a select group of students from Victor Wooten’s Center for Music and Nature will add to the extravaganza. For the first time ever, Wooten and friends will include an audience participation demonstration of the educational program that has helped and inspired hundreds of people worldwide.
As the youngest of five brothers, Victor began playing music at the tender age of 2. Under the tutelage of his older brother Regi, Victor was playing gigs and touring with the family band by age 5. The Wooten Brothers performed with the likes of Curtis Mayfield, War and the Temptations, among others.
Rolling Stone magazine lauded Victor Wooten, a founding member of the supergroup Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, by noting, “every player in the Flecktones is a master, but when Wooten busts out a solo at a concert every jaw in the audience drops to the ground.”
