Holiday Letter

Dear UCO Faculty and Staff,

The tempo of the semester has once again changed as we enter into the first days of finals week leading us toward the December 17 commencement ceremonies for more than a thousand students.  This may be a record for a fall graduation at Central.

Susanne and I hope to see many of you today at the holiday reception in the Nigh University Center from 2 – 4 p.m.  It is also an opportunity for you to bring a toy for a child assisted by the Hope Center.

We wish to thank each of you for the learning and working environment you created since August for our students and for one another.  You are the life force of this historic, respected institution.  Students, their families and citizens appreciate UCO because of you.

We hope that the Christmas holiday season as well as the New Year bring to each of you the fullest measure of blessings that life can bestow.  May the warmth and affection of family and friends alike bring joy and relaxation to you once the rapid pace of preparation for festivities gives way to quieter moments to pause and refresh.

By early next week our faculty will begin their well-earned winter break.  And in thanks to our staff, Wednesday, December 21 will be an additional holiday for you.  Those who must be here to service our intersession classes and to perform other essential duties, you will receive compensatory time off to be arranged with your supervisor.

This extra day should prove useful to tend to the full range of demands of the season. It comes with my gratitude, as well as that of the Cabinet, for helping create the UCO culture of learning, leading and serving and for taking care of our students and each other.

With my sincere best wishes for peace and joy to you and your families.

Don Betz
